On 14 June 2008 at 4pm Torun will celebrate the opening of a brand new Contemporary Art Center, which will be Poland's first new contemporary art museum built from the ground up since 1939 and one of the country’s largest gallery spaces. The Centre is located in the immediate vicinity of the Old Town, at Waly gen. Sikorskiego 13.
The opening exhibition’s title is "Flowers of Our Lives", which focuses on people's passion to collect, systematize and display objects. It includes visually powerful pieces by well-known Polish artist Robert Kusmirowski and classic erotic films by Walerian "Boro" Borowczyk as well as a set of scrupulous memoirs of daily life recorded by Janina Turek on each day between 1940 and 2000.

The Centre cost 46.7 million PLN. The project has had many opponents, who claim that the city should have spent the money on “more useful” things such as e.g. parking lots. The future will tell if the centre will be only for the artistic elite or will become a popular venue for all Torunians. More information: www.csw.torun.pl
